Be Honest
There’s nothing wrong with advising readers that you receive commission on sales that result from activity on your site. In fact, it can disarm skeptical readers who assume that Amazon affiliate product reviews exist to make money at all costs. Honest
disclosure of your intentions can go a long way with your audience and
may result in more return visitors and a higher click-through-rate.
Don’t Use Banners
Banner ads tend to distract readers and sometimes turn them off altogether. Given
the fact that banners generally don’t convert well, it’s best to leave
them off of primary content pages and rely more heavily on text links.
Don’t Use Widgets
Like banner ads, widgets don’t convert well for the majority of Amazon products. It can be time consuming to build a widget and it likely will result in very few, if any, click-throughs. Again, it’s best to funnel readers to your Amazon product pages through text links.
Analyze Data
The
only real way to know what works for your site, products and visitors
is to regularly analyze your Amazon click-through and conversion data. The
tips described in this series are based on personal experience, case
studies and extensive research conducted by experienced individuals. The objective should be to constantly improve your site by increasing click-through-rate (CTR) and conversion rate. This can only be done by determining what works and what doesn’t work through data analysis.
Troubleshoot
Analysis of data can indicate problems with code or link placement within your site. If you determine that no impressions are being calculated on a highly visited page, there may be an error in the code. A
simple re-installation of a link or HTML ode can fix problems that may
have otherwise gone unnoticed if not for regular data analysis.
